SS Pipe Diameter&Wall Thickness in Different Application

Date:2025-08-20
Stainless steel pipes of different diameters and wall thicknesses are suitable for completely different applications. The pipe's operating environment is subject to varying parameters, including pH, corrosiveness, temperature, and pressure. The engineering company's considerations and requirements for the stainless steel pipe's mechanical properties, load-bearing capacity, fluid delivery efficiency, cost, and processing performance ultimately determine the design of the pipe dimensions.

Stainless Steel Pipe Diameter and Applications
Small Diameter (Φ6-50mm)
Mainly used in precision equipment parts, such as mechanical watches, precision pipes for industrial instruments, and precision pipes for medical devices, these industries typically require high precision.
Medium Diameter (Φ51-200mm)
This type of pipe is commonly used in the food processing industry, typically for conveying food-grade fluids. The pipe wall often requires surface treatment to meet food hygiene requirements.
It is also widely used in municipal water systems, where this diameter is generally used for the distribution of tap water and drinking water.
Large Diameter (Φ201mm and above)
Oil and natural gas pipelines, and supporting pipelines for nuclear and thermal power plants, typically require large-diameter pipes to efficiently transport large volumes of high-pressure, high-temperature gas/liquid fluids.

Stainless Steel Pipe Wall Thickness and Applications
Stainless steel pipes have a wide range of wall thicknesses, with common thicknesses ranging from 0.4mm to 2.0mm, and industrial pipes reaching over 10mm.
Applications of Thin-Walled Stainless Steel Pipes
In the medical device industry, stainless steel pipes are widely used in the manufacture of surgical forceps, syringes, and other medical devices.
In the food industry, stainless steel pipes are used to transport various food-grade fluids such as milk, juice, and beer.
In architectural decoration, stainless steel pipes are often used as handrails and railings in interior decoration.
Applications of Thick-Walled Stainless Steel Pipes
In the petrochemical industry, stainless steel pipes are widely used to transport high-temperature, high-pressure, and highly corrosive chemical media such as ethylene and propylene.
In the energy sector, stainless steel pipes are used to transport high-temperature, high-pressure fluids in nuclear and thermal power plants.
